This is early on during the fire. Now, there is no smoke & business as usual has returned.

The fire in Oakhurst that began Monday afternoon August 18th is now 95% contained. Thank you CAL FIRE!! There is no smoke & business as usual has returned.

There was concern it could make its way over Taylor Mountain to Bass Lake, but fortunately the firefighters remarkably were able to prevent that and have it mostly controlled by Tuesday evening.

Although some structures burned, including Suburban Propane office and a home close to it, there were no fatalities and only a couple of injuries.

There is no report yet with a definitive answer as to how it started. The drought conditions helped it to spread quickly.

The fire could have been much worse, but thanks to fast action by firefighting crews from all over the state and air tanker crews dropping fire retardant, it was limited to 612 acres.

Our mountain community is tremendously thankful to all of the firefighters involved.

If you live or visit the area, PLEASE be extremely careful to help prevent another fire. From CAL FIRE:

“With summer weather and extreme drought conditions, we are asking everyone to continue to use caution, ‘one less spark – one less wildfire’.”
