October 12, 2010
Beginning this week, residents of the Bass Lake area will begin to see increased activity of construction personnel and arrival of construction related equipment near the Crane Valley Dam area on PG&E property. This mobilization of personnel and equipment is in preparation for the start of the first phase of the Crane Valley Dam Retrofit Project set to begin on Tuesday, October 19, 2010.
Activities onsite this week starting Monday, October 11, 2010 and continuing through Friday, October 15, 2010, include soil sampling crews working on the project site performing investigative analysis important for the project construction efforts. In addition, equipment and construction personnel will begin to mobilize on site to avoid creating traffic congestion the week of October 18, 2010.
As indicated, construction is set to begin on Tuesday, October, 19, 2010. The first phase of construction will consist of timber harvesting, dam site clearing and site preparation for the new Wishon Quarry located on USFS land approximately 2,000 feet southeast of the dam off of Road 222.
As the project begins, please continue to visit www.cranevalleydam.com for the most up to date project information.
Crane Valley Dam Seismic Retrofit
The Crane Valley Dam was built between 1902 and 1911 before much was known about seismic activity and safety.
PG&E has determined that the Crane Valley Dam is susceptilble to seismic activity and developed a retrofit project to address these safety issues.
The retrofit project will begin as soon as the permitting process is complete and is expected to be complete by 2011.
Bass Lake will remain open for all recreational uses year round during the seismic retrofit project.
