January 5th, 2019. Here’s a quick Yosemite travel update.

1. Highway 41 is closed into Yosemite National Park except for those with proof of confirmed lodging or camping reservations.

2. The only two campgrounds open in YNP are Camp 4 (walk-in/tent) and Upper Pines. These campgrounds are unstaffed, but reservations are still being honored. There’s no way to tell if space is available.

3. Highway 140 is open from Mariposa to Yosemite Valley at the present time. If the rain arrives as predicted, check road conditions often. Slides can happen with as little as .25 inches of rain. Continuously monitor changing conditions, including road conditions.

4. The Yosemite Ski and Snowboard Area is closed. Glacier Point Road is blocked at Chinquapin.

5. Mariposa Grove and Hetch Hetchy are closed. (No pedestrian traffic is allowed at Mariposa Grove.)

6. The skating rink at Half Dome Village is closed.

7. Visitors should be prepared to pack out any trash or waste they bring in.

8. The Mist Trail and John Muir Trail are both closed from Yosemite Valley, and there is no access. The Four-Mile Trail is closed beyond Union Point to Glacier Point.

9. All vehicles planning to enter the park (or travel above 4,000 ft elevation) should be carrying tire chains or cables (and know how to use them). If you need to call 911 for assistance, be aware that help may be a very long time in coming.
