Dear Member,
As we expect for this time of year, the lake level is lowering, but this year it is lowering at a faster rate than we are accustomed.
On September 5, the Bureau of Reclamation denied PG&E’s request for a variance to hold water in our lake until September 19.
PG&E was surprised by this denial (and so are we). The drawdown began on September 6 and is at a rate of 210 cfs per day, or approximately 3 inches (normal is 160 cfs per day).
The ‘unofficial’ reason given is that the water is needed at Millerton for some downstream canal work.
Reasoning aside, the fact is the lake is lowering at a faster rate than usual. We felt it important to notify you in case you were counting on a higher lake level this September and October.
For the most current lake level statistics, visit the locally managed website, BassLakeCA.com or click the button below (updates are typically posted Sunday though Thursday).
We hope to see you at the November 12th All-Member meeting where we can continue the conversation on important community matters, such as this.
Sincerely,
Your Board of Directors
